Term 3 Week 4
Year 13 Boarder Leavers Dinner
The entire house celebrated the completion of the Year 13 Boarders time with us all, with a splendid meal including a spit-roast lamb and all of the trimmings. Mr Troy made a farewell speech, with some tongue-in-cheek comments to the leavers about them when heading to pastures new, of possibly not having the fluffy towels, hot showers and cooked meals that boarding provides. Some Year 12 learners spoke in emotional fashion about their older peers and the experiences that they have shared together. Aiman and Ling Ann who have been our longest serving boarders were given the responsibility of cutting the leavers cake. It was an enjoyable evening which would not have run so smoothly without the assistance of the houseparents.
Run for Shelter
All except those with exam commitments took part in the annual ‘Run for Shelter’ charity fun run. The run started on the school field and ended in the nearby Taman Cansari. The Year 9’s were involved in organising drink stations and a waterslide which proved to be very popular for staff and learners. Everybody joined together to share brunch with each other at the completion of the fun run.
Party in the Park
Many boarders performed on stage dancing, singing or playing an instrument at the Nexus Party in the Park last Thursday. We were all so proud of everybody who was involved. Well done!
Year 10 International Award
Some of our Year 10 boarders participated in the International Award in which they camped here at school and went kayaking at Putrajaya Lake. For some, having to prepare and then cook food proved to be a good learning experience. There were some tired individuals on Sunday evening.
Bangi Wonderland
People always go swimming or staying in water during the hot day, because it’s so comfortable to do so and in my hometown in China, the summer is in July and August are the hottest. Here in Malaysia, it always is the same temperature, so last Saturday we went to Bangi Wonderland Water Park. There are many long yellow bends in one slide and when sitting on the pipeline, you lie down and the staff would push you, making you go very fast on the water, which was very exciting. Some of us hired inflatable tubes for the day which we used to cannon down the slides or relax in the wave pool.
The funnel shaped slide is very exciting and although we had to climb many stairs, having four people sitting together on one tube is slightly reassuring, yet scary.
It was a great day out and those who went had fun together, although some returned back to boarding more sunburnt than others.
