Term 3 Week 10
On the weekend we attended the Bubble Sports Futsal pitches for a game of some quite unique football. Fourteen boarders donned sports kit, braved the heat and played a game of zorbing football. None of the boarders really knew what they were getting themselves into until they arrived where they found ten giant inflatable balls laid out in front of them. After a quick introduction, they were asked to get in, stand up and then get out of the inflatable balls - which all proved to be a lot harder than they looked!
We started off with a 6 minute game of 5-a-side which highlighted the fact that being ‘good at football’ had nearly no credit on this pitch. It was tactics and ability to read the other team's movements that proved to be which team would win. After a few games of football and a well deserved break for everyone we got stuck into another game called ‘Protect the King’. Again requiring tactics, the teams started off the game even; one king down and then the other. Alex Gu soon gained a reputation for someone who could not be taken down easily, and this proved true when his team won the final game of Protect the King.
Last week we hosted a group of 21 young Vietnamese students and 4 adults who were part of Transinex Travel, a Singapore travel agency that organises educational and cultural tours around the region. The group held English writing and speaking lessons throughout the mornings and in the afternoon/evenings they visited KLCC and Putrajaya Challenge Park. They also used the school swimming pool and gymnasium, as well as mingling with our boarders during their four night stay. On their final evening here, some individuals from the group performed some musical pieces, singing and playing the piano. Year 12 boarder Wei Young was pressured into playing the piano from his peers and our visitors were impressed with his musical prowess. To conclude the evening, the visiting group sang the national anthem of Vietnam and our local boarders replied with a rendition of the Malaysian national anthem.
