Strongmen a Hit at Highland Games

Last Saturday our boarders paid a visit to the annual Kuala Lumpur Highland Games which coincided with a rugby tournament which featured over thirty teams in the Under 8 to Veteran Men’s grade at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club. Certain aspects of the Games are so well known as to have become emblematic of Scotland, such as playing of the bagpipes and drums, wearing of the kilt and the tests of strength (known as “heavy” events), especially the caber toss. While centred on competitions in piping and drumming, dancing, and Scottish heavy athletics, the Games also featured entertainment, food & drink, music and exhibits which related to the Scottish and Gaelic culture. There was extra cause for celebration for the boarders as Mr Troy and Ms Bobby’s son Carter scored the winning try in extra time of the final for his U10’s KL Tigers Rugby Team. We had a really exciting time watching all of the events and once we were finished, we then headed to Mid Valley mall for some shopping and snacks before heading back to Boarding. In the evening Ms Sarah took a group of boarders to the cinema to watch Alita: Battle Angel and everybody enjoyed the film as plenty of popcorn was consumed which never disappoints.

On Sunday Mr Dan felt adventurous at Brunch Club deciding to concoct Turkish Eggs Cilbir. There was certainly some curiosity by some boarders as the idea of poached eggs on Greek yoghurt was discussed. The combination of warm, creamy garlic-infused yogurt and poached eggs served as the base for this recipe called Çilbir, which is then topped with a chilli burnt butter, fresh dill and toasted flatbreads, proved incredibly easy to make but extremely delicious.
