Meet the Dynamath
Sep 20, 2018
These days, Eugene Hwang is on cloud nine. While everyone took a break during the school holidays last July, he brought home a shiny gold medal from the 11the Asian Finals of World Mathematical Olympiad 2018, which was held at the Science Centre Singapore.
He was one of the five gold medalists from Malaysia who outwitted 250 contestants at the Olympiad. He competed against students from China, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia for this prestigious win. A competitive math whiz at heart, Eugene is also a familiar name in the local and regional math competitions. Besides the Olympiad, he recently won a gold medal in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) and the UKMT Junior Math Challenge at Nexus. Last term, he also participated in the Nexus Interschool Maths Challenge.
In 2017, he was one of the 12 participants who represented Malaysia for the 12th World Cup of World Mathematical Olympiad (WMO) held in Beijing. WMO is an international math competition that gathers the brightest mathematical minds from various schools to demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving skills through challenging math problems.
Congratulations on your big win, Eugene!
