Trip to Mah Meri Cultural Centre

Being the kind of person who is always keen about learning history, I got pretty excited about our trip to the Mah Meri Cultural Centre on Carey Island. The Mah Meri people have traditions which are still kept until today. Such as the greeting of newcomers and visitors with limejuice, which turned out to be one of the main beverages served around there. We then had to step on a special mat where two Mah Meri girls would greet us and wash our feet. Luckily, they just demonstrated the tradition and did not wet our shoes with water!

Most of the time there, we were taught how the Mah Meri people would live their lives in their little community. We even got a chance to see two of our friends get married to re-enact how the people there would do so. That was definitely a belly tickler. Overall, we learnt a lot on our visit. The Mah Meri people are a fun bunch! We had a great time and hope to visit them again.
