University Applications at Nexus
Oct 15, 2018
The application period to institutes of Higher Education is upon us and it has been a busy few weeks. Our Year 13 learners are in the midst of their university applications whilst Year 12s are considering options open to them. We have hosted visiting universities from around the world such as SOAS (UK), The University of Idaho (USA), SEGi (Malaysia) and St Georges (Grenada) to name a few so far and with more universities visiting weekly. A highlight was our USA University Fair with over 30 institutions attending on Thursday 27th September. This was a great opportunity for learners to find more about a variety of US colleges and the programmes on offer there. The universities who attended were all very motivated to attract IB graduates whom they see as very well prepared for higher education and many offer generous scholarsips to IB students. In addition to these in school events we have been privileged to have receive invitations to other externally organized sessions. On Saturday 15th September, 8 of our IB learners visited the campus of KTJ in order to attend an ‘Oxbridge’ outreach program. The day was incredibly valuable CUMaS and OUMC students (students from Malaysia attending Cambridge or Oxford Universities) spoke about their experiences and shared details of their lives in the UK. Lectures on the application procedure and tips for applying as well as individual subject specific tutorials and mock interview for our year 13s made up the majority of the day and it was an incredibly valuable experience for all involved.More recently we attended an evening event held at the residence of the Ambassador to the Netherlands. Opportunity was provided to be able to speak to university representatives and admissions officers first hand, gleaning information about scholarships, the variety of Programs delivered in English and more about life in the Netherlands. There certainly is a lot going on so keep checking back for our HE updates!
