2018 Moto GP Shell Malaysia Grand Prix at Sepang
Nov 16, 2018
On the 2nd November 2018, the Year 9 learners attended the Friday practice sessions for the 2018 Moto GP Shell Malaysia Grand Prix at Sepang. This was a chance for the learners to witness Physics in action and how it is used in real life. Later in the year, Year 9 learners will be exploring concepts of forces and motion during their Physics lessons. This is one of the main units of work that the learners study in year 9 and the trip will allow them an insight into the factors that may affect the motion of the bikes. During the forces and motion unit the learners will be exploring balanced and unbalanced forces and how these are linked to motion of an object. Factors that affect acceleration, decelleration, breaking distances and the crumple zone.
Although the main attraction was the bike's on the track the learners also had the opportunity to explore the interactive and visual activities on display. This included: Virtual reality games (VR games), testing reaction time and time trial to change the bike tyres.
This was a valuable trip for the learners that prompted lots of physics related questions, 'how is he staying on the bike when tiliting round the corners'? 'how fast are they going?' 'why do they bend down so low'
The learners had a great time! The trip was an entertaining experience, it feels good to spend time with your friends doing things that you have never done before ( for some of us ) but it is still good for me to figure out the correlation between the trip and physics.
