Term 1 Week 7
Last Saturday a majority of boarders along with Mr Mark, Ms Maureen, Mr Troy and Ms Bobby travelled to Malacca for a day trip. On arrival some chose to experience and view what Malacca has to offer on land and sea by touring the city on an amphibious vehicle courtesy of Melaka Duck Tours.
The DUKW, popularly called the DUCK is an amphibious truck developed by the USA in World War II to transport goods and troops over land and water. The DUCK was also used for approaching and crossing breaches in amphibious attacks.
The rest of the group took in the spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of Melacca, from the impressive Menara Taming Sari tower. Viewing from a height of eighty metres, there were so many interesting sights such as St Paul’s Hill, Samudra Museum and the Straits of Melaka.
Following lunch at a Nyonya restaurant we all then visited Jonker Street - the centre street of Chinatown, which is a bustling area of craft and clothing shops along with a lot of trendy cafes. Most of us headed back to Nexus in the late afternoon having purchased mainly souvenir items and more food!
On Saturday and Sunday the Spartan Race took place on school grounds with several of our boarders participating and fulfilling volunteer duties. Spartan offers a variety of races, from school-aged children to the more adventurous and challenging course for adults. The Spartan is an obstacle filled course through different terrains and conditions which tests the physical strength and mental resolve for all. Jeff, Georgia and our own Ms Scout successfully completed the Spartan Sprint challenge whilst Carter finished the Spartan Junior course aided by support from the boarders.
Almost the entire house enjoyed Sunday Sundae last week, with them making different concoctions from a variety of flavours of ice-cream, chocolate and strawberry sauce, wafers and toppings. Certainly dangerous for the waistline of the house staff!
Finally, a reminder to all parents and guardians that mid-term break commences after school next Friday October 21st until after 3pm on Sunday October 30th. Please confirm travel arrangements that your child has with Ms Lina or houseparents as soon as possible.
