Overview
All learners should be able to:
•demonstrate understanding of words within short texts,
•extract relevant specific information from texts,
•show a general understanding of more extended texts,
•organize the relevant information and present it in a given format.
•carry out basic written tasks,
•perform Role Playing tasks which involve both taking the initiative and responding to questions with both strangers and friends,
•respond to unprepared questions in a general conversation on topics of interest to the candidates,
•express thoughts, feelings and opinions,
•demonstrate adequate control of vocabulary, syntax and grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Learners will engage in tasks that combine language and content about variety of cultural topics. Through topics and tasks, learners will be aware of :
•using familiar language with the proper grammar for new purposes in new contexts,
•using imagination to express thoughts, idea, experiences and feelings,
•recognizing that there are different ways of seeing the world and developing an international outlook.
Assessment
Assessment opportunities will include self, peer and teacher assessment.
Learners will be assessed on their ability to:
•understand and respond to spoken language
•understand and respond to written language
•communicate in speech, showing knowledge of a range and variety of vocabulary and applying the grammar and structures of the target language accurately
•communicate in writing , showing knowledge of range and variety of vocabulary and applying the grammar and structures of the target language accurately
First language speakers will be offered the opportunity to sit the IGCSE Bahasa Melayu examination at the end of Year 9.
